Bring Austism resources to Chines Families

On June 26, 2018, CAAC held an event at the TBMS-Canada International School to provide autism related resources to children living with autism and their families. Over 50 person came to the event including 8 families and 20 volunteers. It was a pity that we had to cancel the picnic in Milliken Park because of the rain. Ms. Lee, the teacher of TBMS School prepared a series of activities for children and some volunteers joined in the kids group to help during the game. It turned out to be a very successful event.

A large proportion of the attendees comprised of Chinese immigrants who had limited English proficiency; for many of them, it was the first time they learnt about the different governmental supports and services available for children with autism. In addition, there were also many passionate medical professionals (e.g. acupuncturists, psychologists, etc.) who decided to join the CAAC as volunteers as they would like to bring about positive changes in the lives of these families.

Our guest of honor was Ms. He, dean at the Beijing Institute for Autistic children in China. She gave a talk on the positive effects music therapy has on kids with autism.

Throughout this event, these families have received genuine warmth and affection. The parents of these autistic children have also gained renewed courage and hope for the future of their children.

Autism Ontario reported about of center and the event!
